Hours: Flexible – Minimum 3 hours per week

Role Purpose

To support Diaspora Outreach UK in raising vital funds that enable the delivery of culturally relevant community services. This role involves helping to plan, promote, and execute fundraising campaigns and building meaningful relationships with supporters, donors, and partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and apply for grants, trusts, and community funding opportunities.

  • Assist in planning and promoting fundraising events, both in-person and online.

  • Develop donor outreach materials, including emails, social media content, and appeals.

  • Support partnership building with local businesses and community sponsors.

  • Help track donations, generate reports, and maintain donor engagement records.

  • Represent the organisation positively and professionally in fundraising efforts.

Essential Skills & Qualities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Organised and self-motivated

  • Confident using email, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms

  • Passionate about community development and equality

  • Creative, with a positive, can-do attitude

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or bid applications

  • Familiarity with crowdfunding platforms or donor engagement strategies

  • Knowledge of UK charity fundraising regulations and best practice

  • Graphic design or marketing skills are a bonus

Volunteer Mental Health Support Worker

Mental Health Worker

Location: Remote and/or Community-Based (varies by program)
Hours: Flexible – Minimum 4 hours per week
Reporting to: Volunteer Coordinator / Programme Lead
Type: Volunteer (Unpaid, with references and training provided)

Role Purpose

To provide compassionate, culturally sensitive mental health support and signposting for individuals from African, Asian, and other diaspora communities who are experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer non-clinical emotional support to service users via phone, online platforms, or in-person sessions.

  • Support clients in navigating access to mental health services, including referrals to NHS or third-party providers.

  • Work alongside the team to raise awareness of mental health stigma in diaspora communities.

  • Contribute to support groups, workshops, or community events focused on mental well-being.

  • Maintain confidential and accurate records of interactions and service user needs.

  • Attend training and reflective sessions provided by Diaspora Outreach UK.

Essential Skills & Qualities

  • Satisfactory DBS clearance

  • Compassionate, empathetic, and a good listener

  • Understanding of cultural sensitivity and barriers to accessing mental health support

  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality

  • Willingness to learn and engage with ongoing training

Desirable Experience

  • Background or training in psychology, counselling, social care, or mental health

  • Experience working within African or Asian communities

  • Awareness of safeguarding procedures

Volunteer GCSE Teacher

Location: Online and/or In-Person (depending on learners' needs)
Hours: Flexible – Minimum 2–3 hours per week
Reporting to: Volunteer Coordinator / Education Lead
Type: Volunteer (Unpaid, with references and training provided)

Role Purpose

To support young people from diaspora communities in preparing for their GCSEs by delivering subject-specific tutoring in a supportive, culturally aware, and encouraging environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide GCSE-level support in core subjects: Maths, English, or Science (choose your expertise).

  • Deliver structured, engaging lessons or revision sessions aligned with the national curriculum.

  • Offer one-to-one or small group tutoring, depending on student needs.

  • Track student progress and provide informal feedback to help boost their confidence and performance.

  • Support pupils from underrepresented backgrounds who may be facing additional barriers to academic success.

  • Participate in team briefings or safeguarding training where appropriate.

Essential Skills & Qualities

  • Strong subject knowledge in chosen GCSE area

  • Ability to communicate clearly and explain concepts simply

  • Passion for education and youth development

  • Patience, empathy, and cultural awareness

  • Reliable and well-organised

Desirable Experience

  • Experience teaching or tutoring GCSE students

  • QTS, PGCE, or tutoring qualification (preferred but not essential)

Volunteer Languages Teacher

Type: Volunteer (Unpaid, with references and training provided)

Role Purpose

To support members of diaspora communities in improving their English or native language skills, helping to build confidence, enhance communication, and support social integration and opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver basic to intermediate English classes (ESOL) or community language classes (e.g. French, Arabic, Swahili, Yoruba, etc.).

  • Prepare simple and engaging lesson plans tailored to learners' levels.

  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally respectful learning environment.

  • Support learners in practical communication skills for work, daily life, or accessing services.

  • Provide informal feedback and track learner progress where applicable.

  • Participate in volunteer team check-ins or training sessions as needed.

Essential Skills & Qualities

  • Satisfactory DBS check

  • Fluent in English (or target language, if applicable)

  • Confident communicator and patient teacher

  • Passion for education and empowerment

  • Understanding of the barriers diaspora communities may face

  • Organised and committed to consistent engagement
